UPDATE: As I was in Manchester again today and 10 minutes away from Salford decided to head down to Sheridens again and give it another go. This time I took the trouble to peer into the hole while waiting for the girl to turn up. There is a curtain on their side and I could see she was wearing a dressing gown as she came in.
