I'll make a suggestion now for people to check out http://www.Priceline.co.uk and use the set your own price option. You can get a 4 star hotel for half the price of a 3 star at the right time of year. Only issue is you have to give your card number up front and can't get a refund if you don't like the hotel they give you. Obviously you get to choose the zone and what star.
End of April would be OK for me or May. Any chance we can settle on an exact date? Even if it's just you and me Turlock I think we should go for it. Punting holiday - sounds fab.
